Connect a YESKAMO camera to Wi-Fi
Connect a YESKAMO camera to Wi-Fi — why 2.4GHz matters, fixes for common pairing failures, and tips for a stronger signal.
A YESKAMO Wi-Fi camera only pairs smoothly when it's on the right band with a clean signal. This page explains the 2.4GHz vs 5GHz issue, the failures we see most often, and how to keep the connection stable after setup.
Tested with the YESKAMO app v4.9.7 (June 2026). Steps assume a Wi-Fi or battery camera, not a wired PoE model.
2.4GHz vs 5GHz — start here
Most YESKAMO Wi-Fi cameras connect only to 2.4GHz networks. The 2.4GHz band travels farther through walls, which suits outdoor cameras. If your router broadcasts both bands under one name, the camera may try to grab 5GHz and fail.
Fix: In your router settings, either split the bands into two names (e.g.
MyWiFi and MyWiFi_5G) and join the 2.4GHz one during pairing, or temporarily
disable 5GHz while you add the camera.
Common pairing failures and fixes
- Wrong password / special characters — Re-type the Wi-Fi password
carefully. Avoid spaces and symbols like
&,#,%if the camera keeps rejecting it. - Camera not in pairing mode — It should say "Ready to connect". If not, hold the reset button until it announces a reset, then retry.
- Too far from the router — Pair within a few feet of the router, then relocate the camera afterward.
- Hidden SSID or guest network — Use a normal, visible network. Many cameras can't join hidden SSIDs or isolated guest networks.
- App permissions — On iOS and Android, allow the app Location and Local Network access so it can detect the camera's hotspot.
Signal tips for a stable connection
- Aim for two or more bars of Wi-Fi at the camera's mounting spot. Check signal strength in the camera's live-view or settings screen.
- Add a mesh node or Wi-Fi extender for distant doors, garages, or sheds.
- Keep the camera away from microwaves, baby monitors, and metal surfaces that reflect 2.4GHz signals.
- For solar or battery cameras, a weak signal drains the battery faster because the radio works harder — position matters for runtime too.
Still offline after all this? Reset the camera and run setup again from Set up your first YESKAMO camera. If only one camera in a kit drops, see Add a camera to an NVR kit.
